Cott Beverages plant lighting retrofit to achieve 60% energy savings

Cott Beverages Canada, a division of Cott Corp., expects to see more than 60 per cent energy savings after retrofitting one of its Mississauga, Ont.-based production facilities with the help of Eco-Shift Power Corp. (ECOP), an energy management and lighting firms.

The annual energy reduction forecasted, said Cott, is 1,027,364.72 kWh, which translates to more than $170,000 annually in cost savings.

The project consists of a full LED retrofit/upgrade for a 220,000-square-foot facility, including the production plant, warehouses, storage space, office spacing, parking and other external lighting. A total of 972 fixtures — HID metal halides (high-bays, wallpacks and flood lighting), fluorescents (T12 and T8) and halogen PAR lamps — will be upgraded to LED equivalents. The replacement solutions include ECOP’s NetZero 210W LED high-bays; 28W LED wallpacks and floodlights; 12, 16 and 24W LED linear tubes; and 17W LED Par lamps.

As well, ECOP will be integrating its light management system into all NetZero LED high-bays located in warehouse and production areas. Energy savings — experienced through dimming, scheduling and internal fixture diagnosis — will be provided in real-time to the centralized desktop PC controller. The display will also highlight where energy improvement can be made.

“With the idea of a smart grid becoming more predominant, more clients are starting to understand the importance of completing building upgrades with a smart building control component,” said ECOP CFO Jim Hughes. “This is important not only because it prepares your facility for what’s to come, but allows the end-user to measure consumption on a rolling basis and use these measurements to help facilitate decision-making surrounding a buildings energy efficient investments.”
